Frosting Sheet Pattern Sheets

Here are a few tips and tricks to keep your sheets in tip top shape until your big event. As long as you stick to these top tips your sheets will keep for 6-9 months.

  • Keep them sealed in their packaging until you’re ready to show them off. Extended exposure to the open air can cause them to dry out.

  • Keep them cool, but do not refrigerate or freeze.

  • Keep them dry! Moisture will cause them to disintegrate or melt.

  • Keep them in a dark place out of direct light. Edible ink is more sensitive to light than standard ink and will fade if exposed to light for an extended period of time.

BUT FIRST...

  • Read the instructions in full and decide which application you will use.

  • Have all of your tools ready!

  • It is not recommended to use on unfrosted cakes, cupcakes or cookies.

  • If you plan on refrigerating your dessert after the frosting sheet has been applied please be sure to follow these instructions. If you do not, condensation will form, causing the frosting sheet to sag, bubble and the ink to run. Wrap the dessert in plastic wrap or completely enclose it in a cardboard box immediately after it comes out of the refrigerator, and leave it wrapped until it comes to room temperature.

Tools/Materials:

  • Small, sharp scissors

  • Exacto knife (optional)

  • “Glue” : Piping gel or thinned corn syrup*

  • Small, flat paint brush

*To thin corn syrup add a few drops of water of better spreadability. When I say a few drops I seriously mean a few! If you use too much water the wafer paper will dissolve.

While the frosting sheet is still attached to the clear plastic backing, roughly cut out your image. You may want to cut any tiny details with an Exacto knife at this point. Peel away from the backing and then cut out the larger details with scissors.

Frosting sheets are quite durable, but be careful not to fold/crease sheet after you have removed it from the backing. If you do happen to bend it and it cracks, most of the time the crack can be pressed with your finger after you have placed it on your dessert. This should make the crack disappear, or nearly disappear. You may also remove any smudges from the unprinted sections of the frosting sheet by wiping gently with a q-tip dipped in vodka or lemon extract.

TO USE ON BUTTERCREAM: Be sure your frosted cake is thoroughly chilled and smooth. Place the frosting sheet directly on the chilled buttercream. The firmer and smoother the buttercream the better your results.

TO USE ON FONDANT OR COOKIES: Be sure your fondant or icing is completely smooth, set and firm. Gently brush the back of your frosting sheet with “glue” before applying.

TO USE ON CUPCAKES: For better stability when using on cupcakes apply frosting sheet decoration to a piece of thinly rolled fondant or gumpaste before placing on top of frosting.
